Lurra means "the earth" in Basque. Ellande grew up on a farm in the Nive valley; after eight years at a large landscaping firm, he wanted to do things differently: gardens designed for the local climate, plants that don't need watering all summer, materials from close by.
Since 2016, the team has grown, but the method has stayed the same: a plan drawn up with you, a tidy site, and a garden we keep looking after.
Landscaper, founder of the company
The son of farmers from the Nive valley, Ellande worked for eight years at a large landscaping firm before founding Lurra in 2016. He oversees every new garden, from the first survey to the last planting.
Garden designer
Maialen designs the gardens and chooses the plants: species that like our climate, for a garden that looks good in every season and is easy to live with. She presents the plan and the quote to you.
Maintenance team leader
Patxi runs the maintenance rounds. He knows every garden under contract, its hedges, its fruit trees and its quirks, and lets you know before each visit.
Our plants come from two nurseries in Labourd, field-grown in our climate: they establish better and need less care. We mulch every bed, collect rainwater where possible and fit drip irrigation rather than sprinklers.
